Mike Malina, director of Energy Solutions Associates, has an established track record of promoting issues such as energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment at various industry conferences and seminars. He has presented at various manufacturer and industry events. Most recently he undertook training of Siemens staff on the subject of Part L and how BEMS play a leading role in developing the low-carbon economy.
InTandem Systems
InTandem operates a company-wide training programme for its 15 employees to develop leadership and management skills. The company also develops capability in technical and fault-finding skills in BEMS through extensive mentoring and in-house training days. The objectives are to enable InTandem to deliver efficient and effective BEMS packages, as well as improving staff retention and motivation over the long-term.
KNX Training Facility
The KNX Training Facility is based at the ABB Energy Centre at City College in Plymouth. The college has 17,000 students and offers training from apprenticeships to degrees. The ABB Energy Centre offers training on drives, motors and water metering and filtering equipment. Recently training in the KNX standard was added to this offering, and the college has now been certified as only one of three UK independent training centres by the KNX Association in Brussels. Dedicated KNX training desks are being installed and courses offered to allow apprentices, electricians and others to become qualified to programme and install KNX.
Norland Managed Services
Norland’s ILM Management Development Programme can take a Norland employee from their first management responsibility up to area general manager level. The company offers three courses, developed in conjunction with the Institute of Leadership & Management. Norland has experienced strong growth in recent years, and the training programmes have helped to ensure that the staff could support customers and maintain growth. Over 600 staff have completed the courses at various levels with 88 of these taking the highest level 5.
